Help for Witnesses

Attending court as a witness can be a very worrying experience. The Witness Service exists to help people through the judicial process by providing practical and emotional support at court. You can contact the service at any time - before, during or after attending court.

The service, which is available in all Sheriff and High Courts, is confidential and provided by trained volunteers and staff. The service is free and available to all witnesses attending the Sheriff and High Courts.

The service will support:
  • Witnesses who are called to court
  • Witnesses who are not called to court
  • Families and friends of witnesses
  • Prosecution and defence witnesses
